Digital Sources Digital Philosophy: The first thing to consider here is that a digital signal is an approximation via some mathematical algorithm of a analog signal. That being said, digital can Never fully replicate the original signal. There are always compromises that come into play with digital but none the less it is an excellent and practical medium for storage and sharing. In audiophile terms you may want as high of a sampling rate as possible in order to faithfully replicate the analog waveform. Lossy mediums should never be used: (They frequently cut audible bands that contribute to the harmonic structure of music.)
My most favored forms of digital audio storage are SACD followed by DVD-Audio and lastly the Compact Disc. In the digital world RAW storage is the best way to experience music, but if that is unavailable very-high bit rate loss-less formats will suffice.
