Loudspeakers Loudspeaker Philosophy: The loudspeaker element of a sound system is the weakest component in every sound system. Most devoted audio enthusiasts build a sound system around a speaker set and find amplifiers and cables that complement the 'sound' of the transducer. Transducers are the most uncontrollable device as it relates to the driver response and thus require a cabinet to dampen their adverse sound qualities. Over the years I have concluded that the speaker size must be a function of the listening room size. And for a speaker to sound respectable it must truthfully replicate the full audible spectrum during all sound playback levels. Most low end speakers do not offer the bass levels to accurately synthesize a proper sound-stage. To compensate for this inadequacy most listeners over equalize the bass levels which further distorts the listening experience and distorts higher octave responses. Another remedy for the poor bass reproduction is to elevate the system volume in order to expose more of the low end information but this in turn gives a unfaithful listing bridge from the original performance.
